Apangea Learning's award-winning SmartHelp is the only instructional solution to combine proprietary tutoring technology that emulates tutoring best practices with online instruction from live certified teachers. This unique integration has enabled Apangea Learning to make personalized instruction affordable and available to every student who requires it.
Based on one of the world's largest bodies of cognitive research, SmartHelp provides one-student-to-one-teacher differentiated instruction through a skills-based problem solving process that teaches students how to break down problems into manageable steps. As a Web-based application, SmartHelp can be used on any computer with an Internet connection — ensuring that more students receive the help they need.
Company History
Apangea Learning was founded in 2002 by co-founders Louis Piconi and Stephan Mueller. Their mission was to develop a way to make quality tutoring affordable and available to every student who requires it. After discovering a research-based approach to problem solving undertaken by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, Piconi and Mueller spent two years working, without pay, to research and develop a solution that would address the real problems that schools, teachers and students face.
Today, Apangea Learning SmartHelp Math has helped more than 45,000 students in 21 states improve their performance in mathematics by more than 30 percent. In the Fall of 2008, Apangea Learning will launch SmartHelp Literacy to help those students struggling with writing.
