Apangea Learning's Math Tutoring Service is "Best in Tech," says Scholastic Administr@tor Magazine
PITTSBURGH, March 05, 2009 -Apangea Learning Inc., (www.apangealearning.com),
leaders in personalized, one-to-one online tutoring for students across the country, said today that
its Apangea Math service has been named “Best In Tech” by Scholastic Administr@tor
magazine.
Apangea Math incorporates a skills-based problem-solving process that teaches students how to
break down math problems into manageable steps. The program’s three-tiered approach features
computer-animated learning coaches, live one-on-one customized sessions with certified math
instructors and work in an interactive whiteboard environment.
Scholastic Administr@tor will recognize the Apangea service at the magazine’s upcoming National
Educational Computing Conference in Washington, D.C.
“We’re delighted to earn a ‘Best In Tech’ designation from such an influential voice for America’s
school administrators,” said Gerry Balbier, Apangea executive vice president. “We are rewarded
each and every day as we work with our students and see them become better prepared for academic
success. Now to be recognized by Scholastic Administr@tor is an extra thrill for us.”
In its review of the Apangea Math program, Scholastic Administr@tor reported the experience of a
Pennsylvania school where the online tutoring is available. Joe Guarino, principal at the New
Brighton, PA, school said that the Apangea program “fit perfectly because it allowed out middle
schoolers to work independently on the math skills they need to improve.”
Guarino also said that 90 percent of students utilizing the Apangea Math program improved their
standardized test scores, exceeding the school’s goals for its low-scoring math students.
Apangea’s Balbier, meanwhile, noted that Apangea continues to develop enhancements to its
Apangea Math service as it expands into additional school districts and adds users across the country.
