Apangea Learning: How Budget-Strapped Schools Can Still Offer Summer School Math Programs

PITTSBURGH, May 18, 2009 - Schools facing severe budget restrictions can still offer their atrisk
students the opportunity this summer to catch up in their math studies and build their problemsolving
skills for future academic success.

Apangea Learning Inc., (www.apangealearning.com), leaders in personalized, one-to-one online
tutoring for students across the country, said today it is offering a limited-time incentive to schools that
offer access to its Apangea Math supplemental learning program this summer.

Apangea Learning customizes a summer school program to meet a school's budget and staffing
constraints.

"It's no secret that many school districts are facing financial challenges now. We've developed a costeffective math tutoring summer school program that can work for any school," said Gerry Balbier,
Apangea executive vice president.

Balbier noted that one advantage of the Apangea Math program is that it offers at-home access to
Apangea's live, one-on-one tutoring.

"Even if a school can't keep its doors open this summer, it can give students the ability to fulfill
summer school requirements at home, with full tracking and reporting of their progress," Balbier said.

Another advantage, Balbier added, is that the Apangea Math program does not require a math teacher
to supervise student use. "Many schools will be operating in-school programs this summer but with
limited staffing. We can integrate into that process seamlessly. Our program engages students
directly to create a differentiated learning approach -- students can work at their own levels and speed
– and with options for different language support."

During the school year, Apangea works directly with classroom teachers and administrators to develop
individualized pathways for students.
